EKO HOT BLOG reports that the cleric opened up during a recent sermon, marking the first time he publicly recounted the ordeal and the emotional weight that came with it.
He explained that his brother was abducted by terrorists and held in a forest. According to him, the family complied fully with the kidnappers’ demands, including raising and delivering a large ransom, but the outcome was tragic. The preacher said the abductors later called the family to retrieve the body.
In his words, “My brother got kidnapped, he died in captivity after we had paid heavy ransom in millions… collected the money and they now called us to come and collect the corpse. I hope you know nothing hurts like that and then you see your own brother’s body dead in the forest.”
Apostle Osayi described the shock of receiving his brother’s lifeless body after such a painful negotiation, noting that the moment tested the depth of his emotional strength. He said he chose not to break down, adding that his stability came from his understanding of Scripture.
“Ask my wife, I never shed a tear, not because I wasn’t emotionally attached to him, but because I know the Scriptures,” he said. He added that knowing the Word helped him avoid sinking into overwhelming grief or emotional imbalance.
He stressed that even though the experience was deeply painful, he guarded his mind to prevent despair. “I didn’t shed a tear because I didn’t want to give Satan an opportunity to preach to me,” he noted, emphasising that a person’s life follows the direction of their dominant thoughts.
