Residents and business owners in the Pakata area of Ilorin are breathing a sigh of relief after firefighters stopped a fire outbreak from spreading and destroying more properties.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred on Saturday morning at Ita-Ogunbo, Pakata Road, where a building housing shops and residential rooms suddenly went up in flames, raising panic among occupants and neighbours.

For traders and residents in the area, the situation could have resulted in a major loss, but quick intervention by the Kwara State Fire Service helped prevent what would have been a far more devastating disaster.
According to the Fire Service, the building contained 8 rooms and 5 shops, but only 1 shop was affected as firefighters arrived quickly and brought the situation under control before it could spread further.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a power surge, a common challenge many residents face during unstable electricity supply.

Officials have advised shop owners and residents to prioritise safety by using proper electrical installations, installing surge protectors, and avoiding leaving appliances unattended when power fluctuates.
The agency also encouraged property owners to keep fire extinguishers within reach, stressing that early response can make a major difference in preventing losses.
While no lives were lost, the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly everyday electrical faults can escalate if not addressed promptly.
