The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Sonayon-James will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, in the race to succeed the current administration in Lagos State.

An indigene of Badagry and a prominent figure within the APC, Sonayon-James is widely recognised for her grassroots political engagement, commitment to community development, and advocacy for increased women’s participation in leadership and governance.
She currently serves as the Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos State, having previously held the position of State Assistant Woman Leader, where she played a significant role in mobilising support for the party across various communities.
Her political experience also includes serving as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, where she was actively involved in local governance and community-focused initiatives.
Academically, Sonayon-James holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and a degree in Business and Human Resources Management from University of Hull.

Beyond politics, she has built a successful career in human resources, logistics, and sustainability management. She is the Chief Executive Officer of DGS Chauffeurs and Logistics, bringing private sector experience to her political profile.
Her emergence on the APC ticket is expected to strengthen the party’s campaign efforts, particularly in Lagos West and the Badagry axis, while also highlighting the party’s commitment to greater inclusion of women in top political offices.
With Hamzat and Sonayon-James now officially paired on the APC ticket, attention is expected to shift to preparations for what promises to be a keenly contested 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.
