The Lagos State Government has introduced advanced digital tools to strengthen emergency response, cut down road crashes and tackle traffic congestion across the state.

According to him, LASTMA now deploys surveillance drones, Traffic Management System cameras, GPS enabled patrol vehicles, intelligent communication platforms, body cameras and an automated incident detection system linked to a central command and control centre. A toll free hotline has also been integrated into the response structure.
Bakare Oki explained that the upgraded system allows traffic incidents to be detected in real time, verified through digital feeds and immediately relayed to the nearest patrol or rescue team.
He said the agency previously struggled with delayed reports and coordination challenges, which often slowed response times. With the new system, officers are now connected through mobile data terminals and integrated communication devices, enabling faster deployment and better coordination with medical and security agencies.

The LASTMA boss added that predictive data analytics is being used to identify traffic patterns, accident prone corridors and congestion hotspots. This allows the agency to proactively deploy officers during peak periods and prevent incidents before they escalate.
He described the digital upgrade as part of the broader vision to position Lagos as a smart and resilient city, stressing that faster emergency intervention not only saves lives but also reduces secondary crashes and prolonged gridlock.
Beyond response speed, he said the technology has strengthened transparency and record keeping, as traffic incidents are digitally documented for analysis, planning and improved enforcement strategies.
Bakare Oki reaffirmed that safeguarding lives and ensuring smooth traffic flow remain the agency’s core priorities, urging motorists to comply with traffic regulations and support the modernization drive aimed at making Lagos roads safer and more efficient.
