The Lagos State Government has launched the divisional phase of the Adopt-A-School – Snacks for Thought (PBAT Feeds) initiative, reinforcing its commitment to improving the nutritional wellbeing and academic performance of pupils in public primary schools across the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the programme, flagged off on Tuesday at Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu, is being implemented under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP). The event attracted government officials, education stakeholders, development partners, traditional rulers, corporate organisations, and community leaders, all united in the goal of ensuring that no child is hindered from learning because of hunger.
Representing Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to investing in children through improved nutrition and quality education.
“The future of every society depends on how well it cares for its children. A well-nourished child is more likely to learn effectively, remain in school, and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
Agbaje explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by improving child nutrition, increasing school enrolment and retention, while supporting local farmers, food vendors, and other players within the agricultural value chain.
He noted that the programme extends beyond feeding school children, describing it as a strategic investment in education, agriculture, economic empowerment, and community development.
“This is not just a feeding programme. It is a partnership that invests in the future of Lagos State by strengthening education, improving nutrition, and stimulating local economic growth,” he added.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Adopt-A-School 4 Snacks 4 Thought Digital Dashboard, a technology-driven platform designed to promote transparency, accountability, and real-time monitoring of the programme.
According to Agbaje, the platform allows corporate organisations, financial institutions, philanthropists, alumni associations, faith-based organisations, community groups, and individuals to adopt public primary schools, sponsor nutritious snacks, and monitor the impact of their contributions.
“We believe accountability inspires confidence. Through the digital dashboard, every intervention can be tracked, ensuring transparency while encouraging more partners to support the programme,” he stated.
He called on public-spirited individuals and organisations to support the initiative by adopting schools and contributing to the future of Lagos children.
Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government and Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Prince Adedayo Abdul-Lateef Ladega, described the programme as a significant intervention that would improve pupils’ welfare, strengthen school attendance, and enhance academic performance.
He added that the initiative would also create economic opportunities for farmers, food vendors, and small businesses while deepening collaboration between government, private organisations, and development partners in advancing quality education across Lagos State.
