The Lagos State House of Assembly ad-hoc committee set up by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has concluded its investigation into the demolition of structures in Makoko, Sogunro and Oko-Agbon communities, with affected residents presenting varying demands over compensation and relocation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that at the committee’s final sitting on Thursday, representatives of the three communities expressed different positions regarding the compensation package and relocation arrangements for residents displaced by the demolition exercise.

However, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Noheem Adams, expressed concern over what he described as shifting positions by some of the community representatives.
According to Adams, the communities had earlier agreed on a compensation arrangement but later altered their stance during the course of the engagement, a development he said could slow down efforts aimed at resolving the dispute.
He noted that the committee would submit its report, including the positions of the affected communities, to the Speaker and the full 40-member Assembly for further deliberation and possible legislative action.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has postponed the planned inauguration of its newly elected state executives following the death of its Assistant Publicity Secretary-elect, Yesiro Karamo.
Karamo reportedly died on Wednesday, hours after attending the Lagos APC congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan on Tuesday, where he was elected into the state executive committee.
Confirming the development, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, described Karamo’s death as shocking and a painful loss to the party.
Oladejo said the late party chieftain had just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the state executive council and was widely regarded as a dedicated member whose passion and commitment to progressive politics would be greatly missed.
