Ikoyi witnessed another environmental enforcement action on Wednesday as the Lagos State Government sealed a property for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into a canal through a non-functional sewage treatment plant.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the affected property, located at No. 5, Manuwa Street, was sealed by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office after investigations confirmed the environmental violation.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post on his official X account.
According to Wahab, the enforcement followed complaints from residents and subsequent investigations, which revealed that the property had been “deliberately and continuously” releasing untreated sewage into the canal through a moribund sewage treatment facility.

He added that the premises was also found to be in an unsanitary condition, creating offensive odours, environmental pollution and potential public health risks for residents in the area.
The commissioner reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and protecting public health through sustained monitoring and compliance measures.
