Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, revealed these plans at the closing ceremony of the 75th FIABCI World Real Estate Congress, held at Eko Hotel & Suites.
The government’s ultimate goal is to develop the state’s waterfront into a thriving hub for tourism, housing, and sustainable economic growth.
“This congress has opened up a new world of opportunities for Lagos. We are leveraging FIABCI’s international platform to attract investment and technical expertise for modern jetties, residential waterfront estates, cruise terminals, and floating hotels,” Alebiosu said.
The event held from June 9 to 13, 2025 marked the first time the prestigious real estate gathering was held in Africa, drawing over 400 delegates from around the world.
Alebiosu described the congress as a “game-changer” for the state. He emphasized the valuable knowledge exchange and investment prospects generated throughout the summit, setting the stage for future collaboration and growth.
Lagos and FIABCI have identified key areas of collaboration, focusing on sustainability and the Blue Economy – an approach to coastal development that promotes marine conservation, climate resilience, and community-driven economic growth.
To ensure future waterfront projects align with global sustainability standards, the state is already in talks to establish a joint task force with FIABCI.
Building on the momentum of the FIABCI congress, the Lagos State government has announced plans for an International Waterfront Summit, scheduled for July 2025.
This forward-looking initiative aims to further engage with local and international stakeholders in the real estate and infrastructure sectors, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for the state’s waterfront infrastructure.
“Our goal is to create world-class waterfront infrastructure that supports tourism, transportation, housing, and environmental sustainability. This partnership with FIABCI is a strategic step towards achieving that vision,” Alebiosu said.
