A delivery motorcyclist sustained a serious knee fracture early Monday morning following a collision with a private ambulance on the Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge inward Maryland along the Ikorodu Road corridor, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Eko Hot Blog reports.
Investigations revealed that the incident was linked to traffic congestion caused by a truck fire earlier at the same location, which had slowed vehicles along the entire Ikorodu Road axis.

Amid the heavy traffic, a private ambulance carrying a pregnant woman on oxygen support drove against traffic at high speed, colliding with the motorcyclist who was travelling in his lane.
LASTMA officers immediately alerted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), which dispatched two ambulances to the scene. The pregnant woman was transferred safely into one ambulance, while the injured motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the private ambulance was apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to the Ogudu Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution. Both the damaged ambulance and motorcycle were also removed and transferred to the police for evidence preservation.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki condemned the reckless act, stressing the agency’s zero-tolerance stance against driving against traffic. He called on all emergency service drivers to follow strict safety protocols when transporting patients to prevent accidents.
Mr Bakare-Oki wished both victims a speedy recovery and reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order on Lagos roads.
