The accident occurred on August 23, 2025, when the vehicle crashed into the lagoon. Following days of search, LASWA’s Search and Rescue team confirmed the latest recovery.
According to the statement, the incident involved a Toyota Camry saloon car that plunged into the lagoon. “LASWA’s Search and Rescue team responded immediately upon receiving the distress call.
The team confirmed that the vehicle carried a female occupant, identified as Aisha, aged approximately 25 to 35 years. Her body was swiftly recovered by local divers and handed over to her family,” it said.
Emergency response units from LASWA, the Marine Police, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) coordinated efforts at the scene, with the support of local fishermen who played a vital role in the recovery operations.
While initial reports suggested the car had only one occupant, further investigations confirmed the presence of a second passenger, identified as Chado Daniel Danladi, 31, a resident of Oremeta Street, Off Opebi Link Bridge, Ikeja. He was described as a colleague of the first victim. His body was recovered during an extended search and has since been handed over to his family.

LASWA noted that the tragic incident highlighted the effectiveness of coordinated emergency response and community support in managing waterway accidents. “We remain committed to ensuring safety and rapid response in all such incidents,” the agency said.
