There is cautious optimism among consumers and retailers of liquefied petroleum gas as supply levels improve across several parts of Nigeria, leading to a noticeable drop in prices.
Findings show that cooking gas is currently sold between ₦1,000 and ₦1,400 per kilogramme, depending on location and outlet. This marks a sharp improvement from the acute scarcity and price surge recorded in September and October 2025.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Market checks across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and neighbouring states revealed that many consumers now purchase LPG within the ₦1,050 to ₦1,400 per kg range. Some major gas plants were also found to be selling directly to end users at prices as low as ₦900 per kg.
For households, the current prices represent relief from the peak period of late 2025, when LPG reportedly sold for as high as ₦2,000 per kg in some areas. That spike followed disruptions linked to a dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, which led to a shutdown of gas facilities during that period.
Despite the price moderation, consumers say they remain hopeful that cooking gas prices will fall below ₦1,000 per kg in 2026, stressing that affordability is critical to wider adoption of clean cooking energy.
The National Chairman of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Ayobami Olarinoye, said the market has stabilised following improved supply.
According to him, LPG supplies have resumed at the Apapa axis of Lagos, easing distribution challenges. He noted that prices vary based on neighbourhoods and logistics costs, with street retailers selling between ₦1,300 and ₦1,400 per kg, while fuel stations and gas plants offer slightly lower rates.
Olarinoye disclosed that retailers currently purchase LPG from major marketers at between ₦960 and ₦1,050 per kg, adding that sellers offering lower prices are often plant owners selling directly to consumers.

Industry watchers say sustained supply and direct sales initiatives could further stabilise prices in the months ahead.
