EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, formally announced the defections on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, during a plenary session. The lawmakers who switched allegiance are Jallo Mohammed, representing Igabi Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, and Adamu Tanko, representing Gurara/Suleja/Tapa Federal Constituency in Niger State.
In their separate letters addressed to the House leadership, the lawmakers attributed their decision to deepening divisions within the PDP, which they claimed were obstructing their ability to effectively represent their constituents.
“This unfortunate turn of events has left me with no choice but to seek a more stable political platform through which I can better serve the interests and aspirations of my constituents,” Mohammed stated.
He also praised Speaker Abbas for his leadership, saying, “Your dedication to national unity, good governance, and legislative excellence has convinced me that the APC is the appropriate platform to further my legislative and constituency development agenda.”
Similarly, Tanko explained that his defection followed “careful consideration and consultation with my constituents,” emphasizing that they advised him to realign with the ruling party for better representation.

However, House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda opposed the defection, arguing that there was no substantial evidence of a crisis within the PDP to justify their exit.
The latest defections are part of a growing trend of opposition lawmakers crossing over to the APC in recent months.
