Lekki Conservation Centre Reopens Walkway After Repairs

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government and the management of the Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) have announced the reopening of the walkway at the center for public use, effective Friday, March 29th, 2024.

This follows the completion of extensive routine maintenance works on the facility.

During a visit to the center in Lekki alongside officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, confirmed the reopening. “I am happy to see that all repairs and renovations on the facility, including the Walkway, have been completed and will be accessible for tourism during the Easter celebration,” Aregbe stated.

Expressing gratitude to Lagosians and tourists from around the world for their patience during the maintenance works, Aregbe said, “The Special Adviser appreciated Lagosians and tourists across the world for their patience during the thorough maintenance works carried out at the Centre in Lekki.”

Prof. Mathew Onoja, the Director-General of the Centre, also acknowledged the State Government’s intervention and swift response following a viral video that circulated in December, highlighting the need for repairs. “The Director-General of the Centre, Prof Mathew Onoja also appreciated the State Government for its intervention following the viral video, which first circulated in December as well as the swift response and efforts towards making the repairs and renovations seamless,” he said.

Onoja highlighted the significance of the Centre as a major tourism asset in Lagos State, stating, “The Centre being a major tourism asset in Lagos State has played host to tourists from all over the world as it offers a serene environment for nature tourism and also boasts of the longest canopy walkway in Africa.”

The facility had been undergoing routine maintenance since January due to concerns raised about a damaged section of the Canopy Walkway, which had been repaired before the viral video surfaced on social media platforms.

With the completion of the repairs and renovations, visitors can once again explore the LCC’s Walkway and experience the serene environment and nature tourism offerings during the upcoming Easter celebration.
