Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has directed political appointees in his administration who intend to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections to publicly announce their ambitions.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor issued the directive on Thursday during the 2026 Iftar programme organised by the Oyo State Government at the frontage of the Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, in Ibadan.

According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, Makinde encouraged interested appointees to pursue their political aspirations under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He assured the aspirants of his support, provided they remain committed to the welfare of the people and the continued development of the state.
Makinde explained that his directive followed reports circulating on social media suggesting that he had not granted permission for political appointees in his government to seek elective offices, including the governorship, despite the release of the election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“I have seen claims on social media saying I have not approved political appointees who want to contest for various positions.
From now on, anyone interested should feel free to declare their ambition and even put up billboards,” the governor said.

He also advised those concerned about internal challenges within the party to include the PDP logo on their campaign materials, assuring them that there would be no issues.
Makinde further used the event to appreciate Muslim faithful in the state for their prayers and continued support for his administration, noting that their cooperation has contributed to the state’s development and progress.
Earlier at the programme, Islamic scholar Fadilat Onihantu commended the governor for his leadership style and dedication to governance, family, and faith.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Daud Akinola, praised Makinde for consistently hosting the Iftar gathering since he assumed office and urged continued prayers for both the state and the nation.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland and former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, lawmakers, government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders from across the state.
