Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Seyi Makinde, on Monday met with the party’s governorship candidates from the South West as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the meeting was reportedly focused on strengthening the party’s structures and coordinating grassroots mobilisation across the region.
Those said to have attended included the APM governorship candidates in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi; Lagos State, Prince Laja Adeoye; Ogun State, Rotimi Babajide; and the party’s candidate in Osun State.
A source familiar with the meeting told The Nation that discussions centred on developing a coordinated campaign strategy to expand the party’s electoral strength across the South West.
The source said particular attention was given to Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states, where the party is seeking to establish stronger structures ahead of the elections.
The meeting also considered ways to deepen grassroots engagement and improve coordination between Makinde’s presidential campaign and the governorship campaigns across the region.
The APM is also reportedly working on plans to strengthen its presence in other parts of the country as part of a broader national mobilisation strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate after securing the party’s ticket at its presidential primary held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
During his acceptance speech, the governor pledged to pursue reforms aimed at restoring public confidence and addressing challenges affecting critical sectors of the economy.
He listed the oil and gas sector, agriculture and broader economic reforms among the areas that would receive attention under his proposed administration.
Makinde had earlier declared his presidential ambition on the APM platform in May 2026.
His move to the party followed internal disputes and legal challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party, where he had previously been a prominent figure.
