Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has emerged as a major doubt for next month’s El Clasico after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 1-1 La Liga draw with Real Betis.
The France captain was substituted in the 81st minute, and medical tests later confirmed a muscle injury, leaving the club uncertain about his availability for the clash against Barcelona on May 10.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement released on Monday, April 27, the club said: “Following tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappe by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with a semitendinosus muscle injury in his left leg. His recovery will be monitored.”
Madrid will face Espanyol this weekend before travelling to the Camp Nou for the season’s final Clasico.
The Spanish side currently sit second in La Liga, 11 points behind leaders Barcelona with five matches remaining, raising the possibility that the title race could be decided before the fixture.
The injury adds to a difficult period for the club, who were recently eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Bayern Munich and now risk ending the season without a trophy.
Mbappe’s potential absence would be a significant setback. The forward has scored 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions this season, including 24 in La Liga and 15 in European matches.

The injury also comes at a crucial time ahead of the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, scheduled to begin on June 11, where Mbappe is expected to play a leading role for France.
