In a significant push toward digital transformation, Microsoft has committed $1 million to train one million Nigerians in artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that, as announced during the Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos, this initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National AI Strategy, which aims to equip 70% of the young workforce with AI-related skills.

The program will bridge the skills gap, enhance employability, and prepare Nigeria’s workforce for a digital economy projected to gain $15 billion from AI by 2030.
Microsoft’s Managing Director for Nigeria and Ghana, Ola Williams, emphasized the company’s dedication to empowering individuals and businesses through AI training. The initiative will focus on AI, digital literacy, and cybersecurity, with particular attention to youth and women. By 2026, Microsoft plans to reach one million Nigerians, including business leaders and public sector executives, ensuring they can leverage AI and cloud technologies effectively.
Since 2021, Microsoft has collaborated with the Nigerian government, Wootlab Foundation, and other organizations to train over four million Nigerians in digital skills. Initiatives such as the 3MTT platform, Tech4Dey, and partnerships with the MTN Foundation have further expanded digital literacy efforts.
The Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos provided a platform for business leaders, IT professionals, and developers to gain hands-on experience with AI technologies.
