According to them, maintaining the market’s infrastructure has become increasingly difficult due to persistent breakdowns and high maintenance costs.
“We have learnt to manage our resources the way we can.
When Hon. Wale Raji redeveloped this market, he provided us with a solar-powered borehole, but in less than six months it became faulty and has remained unusable till now,” they said.
They explained that traders later depended on the generator-powered borehole facilitated by Senator Tokunbo Abiru, but the cost of fuel, repairs, and servicing has been overwhelming.
“It has not been easy. We put someone at the borehole to sell water to traders so we can generate funds for repairs.
The pumping machine has been faulty for some time now, and we have spent over ₦200,000 fixing it. We just bought another one,” they added.
Market officials also disclosed that they employ cleaners twice a week, with each earning ₦3,000, and pay security personnel to safeguard the environment.
“Aside from these, we are also taking steps spiritually to enhance development in the market. It is not coming cheap, but we want this market to become bigger and better, and we can’t relent,” the Iyaloja said.

The market leadership expressed deep appreciation to Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Hon. Wale Raji, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu, and Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye for various projects and support that have helped the market in recent years.
They, however, appealed to Hon. Akinloye to urgently provide stalls for garri traders who currently operate without proper shelter.
They stressed that many of these traders incur heavy losses during rainfall, often plunging them into debt.
“The traders are suffering because they don’t have stalls. When it rains, their goods get destroyed by water. This pushes many of them into indebtedness,” they lamented.
