- Mother Allegedly Directs Daughter to Stab Brother to Death
- The conflict reportedly began shortly after the deceased, described as appearing “dazed,” arrived at his mother’s stall to help
- Traders said the mother and daughter attempted to flee the scene, but the mother was restrained by bystanders
A tragic incident occurred over the weekend at Marian Market in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, where a young man was allegedly stabbed to death by his elder sister following a minor dispute, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Eyewitnesses, primarily women traders at the market, claimed the altercation was reportedly instigated by the siblings’ mother during an argument with the deceased. The mother, who sells fish in bulk at the market, could not be fully identified at press time.

According to a trader who spoke anonymously, the suspect is about 23 years old. The conflict reportedly began shortly after the deceased, described as appearing “dazed,” arrived at his mother’s stall to help.
“The boy is said to be an addict who often takes a dangerous combination of narcotics known locally as ‘Ice’,” the witness said. “When he arrived at his mother’s stall, an argument ensued between them.” Some traders alleged that the mother had previously expressed fear of her son’s violent behavior while under the influence, claiming he had attempted to assault and even sexually harm her on several occasions.

Eyewitnesses stated that when the elder sister arrived, the mother allegedly instructed her to stab the young man. The victim reportedly began bleeding heavily and grew weak before help could arrive.
Traders said the mother and daughter attempted to flee the scene, but the mother was restrained by bystanders while the daughter escaped. “We were afraid that if they escaped, the police might pursue us instead,” one trader explained.
The mother reportedly told fellow traders she ordered the attack out of fear for her safety, citing repeated threats and assaults by her son while he was under the influence of drugs.
Mr Greg, a market trader, said the police were immediately alerted and arrived promptly to take the mother into custody. “She was made to carry her son’s body on her lap. It was soaked in his blood,” he said.
Calls to DSP Igri Ewa, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, were not answered at press time.
