Latinate Sanusi, a mother of six, firmly declared before a Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, on Monday that she would not vacate her former husband’s house despite the pronouncement of three divorces.a
Sanusi’s statement was in response to Abdulrazak Yunusa’s petition, seeking the court’s confirmation of the divorce pronouncements he had made and subsequently requesting her removal from his house.

“My children are all girls and I intend to stay so that I can take care of them; after all, he doesn’t provide most of their needs,” she said.
The complainant, Abdulrazak Yunusa, asserted before the court that he had been responsibly providing for his family. He further stated that the lack of submissiveness on Sanusi’s part prompted him to pursue the divorce.

Having heard both parties’ accounts, Judge Kabir Muhammad confirmed the three divorce pronouncements between the couple, effectively dissolving their marriage.
The judge made it clear that the couple would need to remarry should they wish to rekindle their union in the future.
“What is before me is a suit on confirmation of divorce; the issue of child custody can be filed as a fresh case,” he said.
