Recounting what happened, Umukoro said the school had closed early for revision week, and she stayed behind to complete some academic work. During that time, her baby was being looked after by the school’s principal. She added that the school director, Mr. Korede Afuye, was later identified as the last person who handled the child before the situation became alarming.
According to her, the baby had been placed on the floor after becoming restless. Initially, she noticed wetness around the child and assumed it was urine. However, moments later, she discovered something far more troubling.
“About 10 minutes later, I picked her up and was shocked to see she was bleeding,” she said.
A colleague, who is a nurse, examined the baby and reportedly confirmed that the bleeding was coming from the anus, with visible bruises around the area.
The mother said she immediately demanded answers from the school management, particularly after learning who last handled the child. She expressed disbelief at how such an injury could occur within a short period.

Despite attempts by the school to calm the situation, Umukoro insisted on reporting the case to the authorities, stressing that the severity of the incident could not be overlooked or settled informally.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, specifically the Gender Unit, for a thorough probe.
The police also noted that the identity of the child is being protected, while investigations continue to determine exactly what transpired.
