The leadership crisis within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has taken a fresh turn, with the arrest of its court-recognised president, Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, and six of his supporters by operatives of the FCT Police Command.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Police authorities said the arrests followed a violent confrontation at the union’s national secretariat located in Garki II, Abuja.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, officers acted on a distress call reporting that a large group of individuals, reportedly numbering about 300 and armed with dangerous weapons, had stormed the premises.
She explained that the situation escalated after the group allegedly began removing items from the office, sparking resistance from another faction within the union.
A police response team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, was immediately deployed to the scene to restore order.

Preliminary findings, according to the police, indicated that Baruwa and his group were attempting to enforce a court ruling without the presence of authorised court officials, a move that triggered a clash with opposing members.
The confrontation turned violent, leaving one person with serious machete injuries, while several others sustained varying degrees of harm and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Those arrested alongside Baruwa include Sulaiman Musa, Nasir Ibrahim, Sadisu Musa, Dalha Suleiman, Abdullahi Garba, and Rasheed Fojebi.
Police confirmed that the suspects have since been arraigned before a magistrate court in Wuse Zone 2, while calm has been restored to the area.
The command also dismissed viral claims that its officers opened fire during the incident, describing the reports as false and misleading.
