- The Labour Party has officially unveiled its electronic membership registration portal, designed to streamline documentation ahead of upcoming congresses and a national convention.
- Interim National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman warned supporters to ignore anyone demanding fees for registration, labeling such individuals as fraudsters.
- The registration drive aims to build a transparent membership database to resolve internal leadership disputes and prepare the party for future political contests.
The Labour Party has taken a significant step toward restructuring its internal operations with the official launch of an electronic membership registration portal.
Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Monday, the interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, emphasized that becoming a member of the party through the new platform is completely free of charge.

Addressing a gathering that included stakeholders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Usman was blunt in her warning against scammers.
“Nigerians are not being asked to pay money to do this registration. Anybody who says that online anywhere is probably a thief,” she stated.
She clarified that while the portal includes a section for existing members to pay their monthly dues, the act of registration itself carries no financial burden.
The move is seen as a strategic effort to heal the party following the leadership vacuum and legal battles that have persisted since the 2023 general elections.
By creating a digital and verifiable membership register, the interim leadership hopes to lay a credible foundation for ward, state, and zonal congresses, which will eventually culminate in a national convention to elect a substantive National Working Committee.
Responding to concerns about internal friction, Usman remained optimistic, asserting that the party’s focus is on building a platform based on social justice and equal opportunity.

She projected that the registration process would move swiftly due to the high level of enthusiasm among Nigerian workers.
“I assure you that what will take other political parties three weeks to do wouldn’t take us more than a week,” she added.
Adding weight to the chairman’s remarks, veteran trade unionist and Board of Trustees member Lawson Osagie dismissed claims that the party remains factionalized.
He noted that the National Caretaker Committee is operating strictly within the guidelines of the Supreme Court and regulations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Osagie reiterated that the tenure of the previous leadership had legally expired, making the current interim structure the only recognized body to lead the party toward its next convention.
As the Labour Party looks to reposition itself as a formidable political alternative, the success of this digital drive will be a crucial test of its ability to organize and mobilize its base without the baggage of past administrative disputes.
