NiDCOM’s Chairman Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, emphasized the importance of decentralizing diaspora engagement in her opening address.
She explained that bringing the programme to the local level would motivate Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in their home states, further promoting collaboration between Nigerians abroad and their communities of origin.
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted NiDCOM’s ongoing programmes, including the Nigerian Diaspora Day (NDD), Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) and the Badagry Door of Return Festival, among others, as its avenues to maintain effective diaspora engagement.
She applauded the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his hospitality and leadership in improving the socio-economic status of Enugu citizens.

Barr. Olangwa Ezekwu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, shared data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) highlighting the significant contributions of the diaspora, with remittances reaching $4.22 billion between January and October 2024 and over ₦60 billion sent home in December.
