- To mark its 70th anniversary, the Nigerian Navy has launched an unprecedented online raffle, offering members of the public a rare opportunity to sail aboard a naval warship.
- The registration period is now open for fourteen days, after which unique codes will be generated for a random selection process to determine the lucky winners.
- The Navy emphasized that the final number of participants will be strictly governed by maritime safety protocols, and won slots are non-transferable.
The Nigerian Navy has announced an open invitation for civilians to experience life at sea, commemorating the Navy’s 70th anniversary.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Abi Folorunsho, revealed on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026, that the raffle is a centerpiece of the activities commemorating the Navy’s 70th anniversary.

The initiative, which has already sparked significant interest across social media, involves a phased registration process. Interested participants are required to fill out an online form capturing basic personal details, including age, restricted to those 18 and above, and contact information.
Once the two-week registration window closes, the entries will be collated, and a random draw will be conducted using generated codes.
The Nigerian Navy has been clear about the logistical expectations for winners. Successful applicants will be required to converge in Lagos, which serves as the departure point for the voyage.
“Getting to the venue is your responsibility,” Folorunsho clarified in an update on X (formerly Twitter), adding that while the invitation is open to all, safety remains the overriding priority.
The number of civilians permitted on board will be determined by the capacity of the designated warship to carry non-crew members without compromising operational safety standards.
Furthermore, each slot is tied to a specific identity code, meaning winners cannot gift or sell their opportunity to others.
While many Nigerians have expressed excitement at the prospect of a high-seas adventure, some online users raised questions regarding data privacy and the transparency of the selection process.

In response, the Navy pointed to a comprehensive privacy policy attached to the registration link, assuring the public that their data is handled securely and solely for the purpose of the anniversary events.
The “Nigerian Navy @70” raffle represents a shift toward more transparent and engaging public relations strategies for the armed forces.
Beyond the thrill of the sail, the Navy hopes the initiative will offer Nigerians a closer look at the sophisticated operations involved in securing the nation’s territorial waters.
As the registration continues, the digital space is buzzing with anticipation for what many are calling a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to walk the decks of a Nigerian sovereign vessel.
