Representatives of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) were present at the airport to welcome the evacuees and coordinate their arrival.

The repatriation exercise is part of the Federal Government’s continued efforts to support Nigerians who have opted to leave South Africa and return home voluntarily amid increasing anti-immigration sentiments.
The latest evacuation follows heightened tensions in South Africa, where some vigilante groups and organisations had set a June 30 deadline calling for undocumented migrants to leave the country.
