The Nigeria Immigration Service has clarified that its remote biometric capture option is not available to all passport applicants.
According to the Service, applicants found ineligible after the verification process must return to the passport application portal and schedule a physical biometric appointment at their preferred Nigerian embassy or high commission.
It stated that applicants who receive an “ineligible” response are required to complete the biometric process in person at the selected diplomatic mission.

For those approved for remote biometric capture, the Service said they must still forward the required supporting documents to the embassy or high commission handling their application.
The required documents include a printed passport application form, passport payment receipt, biometric payment receipt, and the applicant’s current passport. These documents must be packaged in a self-addressed return envelope and sent to the designated processing mission.
The NIS also advised applicants that they can begin tracking the progress of their passport applications two weeks after submission through its online passport tracking platform or the NIS Mobile App.
