- Commissioner Oladunjoye pledged renewed commitment to meet registration targets
The Lagos State Office of the National Population Commission (NPC) on Friday received a delegation from the UNICEF Child Protection Unit, led by Dr. Ibrahim Sesay, Head of Party, UNICEF Global Child Protection Unit, UN Building, Abuja. He was joined by Mr. Denise Onoise, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF Lagos Field Office.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the visit focused on strengthening collaboration and clarifying the roles of key stakeholders — NPC, ALGON, and NIMC — in line with the Tripartite Compact Agreement signed by the three institutions.
Dr. Sesay reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to working with the NPC to ensure effective birth registration across Lagos State. According to him,
“The National Population Commission continues to play a leading role in the architecture of birth registration across Nigeria, and our mission is to enhance this leadership through strategic partnerships.”
In her response, the Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Lagos State, Barrister (Mrs.) Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye, commended the UNICEF team for providing clarity on the framework.

She said, “My initial fears have been clearly allayed after listening to the presentation.”
Oladunjoye further assured that the Lagos State NPC office is ready to intensify efforts toward achieving and surpassing its birth registration targets.
“We will hit the ground running immediately to ensure that every child under one year is properly captured in the national birth register,” she added.
Also present at the meeting were the State Director, Mr. Bamidele Sadiku, who outlined some operational challenges faced by the Lagos office, and the Head of CRVS Department, Mrs. Mabel Okoye.
