EKO HOT BLOG reports that the scheme expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of corps members and staff nationwide.
“The NYSC stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult period and prays for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased,” the statement read.
Jamiu was serving at Government Junior Secondary School, Bakin Ado, in Nasarawa State before the incident.
Earlier, the Nigerian Army said the corps member died during a shootout between troops and suspected armed robbers in Abuja.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters Guards Brigade, troops on routine night patrol responded to a distress call following an armed robbery attack in the Dei-Dei area.
He said the soldiers came under gunfire from fleeing suspects, leading to an exchange of fire during which the corps member was hit and later died from injuries sustained.
However, the family of the deceased has rejected the military’s account.
In a statement, the family alleged that soldiers fired at close range into Jamiu’s room and that a bullet struck him in the head.
They said the incident was witnessed by his sister, who was at home at the time, while their parents were away in Okene for a burial.

The development has raised fresh concerns over civilian safety during security operations, as investigations into the incident continue.
