EKO HOT BLOG reports that the visit comes days after the Alaafin openly criticized the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, over the conferment of the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on Ibadan businessman, Dotun Sanusi. The Alaafin had argued that no monarch possesses the authority to bestow a title covering the entire Yorubaland.
Obasanjo’s visit was his first to the palace since Oba Owoade’s installation as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo in April 2025. He was accompanied by his daughter, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and a delegation of dignitaries. The former president was warmly received, though details of his discussions with the monarch were not disclosed at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, Obasanjo has also come under fire from the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over comments in his newly launched book, Nigeria: Past and Future. In the publication, the former president reviewed Nigeria’s leadership since independence and described Muhammadu Buhari’s government as the “worst civil administration regime” in Nigeria’s history, while suggesting that President Bola Tinubu’s government is “competing with Buhari’s for now.”
The Lagos APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, dismissed Obasanjo’s remarks as “laughable and disgracefully hypocritical,” insisting that the former president lacks the moral authority to judge any administration.

“It is ironic that a man whose tenure was remembered for political arrogance, squandered opportunities, and failed democratic subversion would have the audacity to label anyone incompetent,” the party stated.
