The Ondo State Government has called for calm among residents following the circulation of a leaked memo from the Department of State Services (DSS), which warned of a possible attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on communities within the state.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the memo, reportedly sent to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, raised concerns about a potential security threat. However, the state government has dismissed fears of imminent danger, assuring citizens that adequate preventive measures are already in place.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, explained that the leaked memo was one of several routine intelligence reports shared among security agencies to enhance vigilance and coordination.
“The Government of Ondo State is aware of the recent security alert memo of the DSS addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army regarding a possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state, which got leaked to the media,” Ajanaku said.
“Such reports are a normal part of security operations aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats. They contain varying levels of threat assessment and are used in joint operations by security agencies to strengthen proactive response.”
Ajanaku assured residents that the government is working closely with the DSS, the Nigerian Army, and other security agencies to prevent any form of attack, particularly in border areas. He reaffirmed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration remains committed to keeping Ondo one of the safest states in the country.
“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is in constant contact with security agencies and has directed heightened surveillance, especially around border communities,” Ajanaku stated.
“The government and security agencies are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of every resident.”
He emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance and continued cooperation between the government, security operatives, and residents to detect and neutralize potential threats before they occur.
