EKO HOT BLOG reports that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a restriction on vehicular movement across the state from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday as local government elections take place. In a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, directed security agencies to enforce strict compliance with the order to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
According to the statement, only voters, accredited media personnel, and civil society organizations will be allowed free movement during the election period. The restriction is aimed at preventing security breaches and curbing the influx of hoodlums into the state.
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and security, stressing that law enforcement agencies must ensure the smooth conduct of the elections. “The governor has instructed security agencies to enforce the restriction and only allow authorized individuals to maintain peace and order in Osun State,” Rasheed stated.
The restriction order comes amid rising political tensions between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the dismissal of APC local government chairmen and councillors. While the PDP insists that the February 10 ruling by the Court of Appeal in Akure did not reinstate the sacked APC officials elected in 2022, the APC argues that they have the legal right to resume office.

On Monday, tensions escalated as both parties clashed over control of local government secretariats across the state, leading to violent confrontations. The police confirmed that six people lost their lives in the violence, with several others injured.
