EKO HOT BLOG reports that acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, while inaugurating the committee in Abuja on Thursday, said the panel’s decisions would shape the party’s future, restore public confidence, and ensure fairness in allocating National Working Committee (NWC) positions.
Damagum noted that the outcome of the zoning exercise could also determine the geopolitical zone that will secure the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
He recalled how zoning disputes in 2015 and 2023 deepened internal crises, including the rift over former President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid and the opposition of five governors to Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy.
He urged the committee to act with “wisdom, foresight, and fairness,” stressing that the zoning process must strengthen party unity, reward loyalty, and position the PDP for electoral victory.
National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, said the committee’s report would be presented to the National Executive Committee on August 25.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, assured members of full support from governors, adding that the failures of the APC administration should inspire the PDP to improve its governance.

Committee Chairman and Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, pledged a consultative and inclusive approach in delivering a “fair and just zoning formula.” Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, will serve as Vice Chairman, while Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, will act as Secretary.
