Pinnick Says NFF Sacked Gernot Rohr To Prevent Foreseen Disaster
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Melvin Amaju Pinnick, says the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), sacked Gernot Rohr to prevent foreseen disaster.
According to Amaju, the long-serving Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr was sacked after a collective decision from the committee, in a bid to prevent a ‘disaster’ foreseen.

The NFF President revealed on Monday when he appeared live on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily breakfast programme that “It wasn’t an individual decision; it was a collective decision from the committee.”
“We didn’t want a disaster to happen before taking the decision,” Pinnick added.
When asked whether the NFF owed Rohr some unpaid salaries, the NFF President said, “We are owing him a couple of monies and they will be cleared off (in) five months.”
Naija News reports that NFF on Sunday ended rumors as it announced the sacking of the nation’s football team coach.
This came after speculations of the German professional coach being sacked, a development that was debunked in several notifications by the NFF.
However, the football federation yesterday made it public it has sacked Rohr and appointed Augustine Eguavoen, the current NFF Technical Director, as the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles on an interim basis.
A statement from the nation’s football governing body reads: “This is with immediate effect, and follows the termination of the relationship with Franco-German Gernot Rohr, who has been in charge of the three-time African champions for the past 64 months, and is Nigeria’s longest-serving manager.”
The statement added, “Following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday, it was decided that Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer).
“Former Nigeria captains Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal have been appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.”
The statement quoted the General Secretary of the NFF, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, as commending the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for collaboration and guidance all through.
“The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria,” he added.
