According to the police chief, the prime suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation that the attack was carried out to “teach her a lesson” over grievances relating to his previous employment and remuneration.

Ojajuni said the arrests followed extensive intelligence gathering and technical tracking carried out by detectives after the incident.
He disclosed that investigators recovered several items believed to be linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a black pen.
The commissioner assured that investigations were still ongoing and that the suspects would be prosecuted after the conclusion of the inquiry.
Oyesiku and her security guard were discovered dead at the residence after police responded to a report of suspicious activity on June 21, 2026. The broadcaster was found in her living room, while the security guard’s body was discovered inside the security post within the compound.

Ojajuni explained that officers observed signs of forced entry into the house and also discovered that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle had been taken, prompting a full-scale investigation into suspected robbery and murder.
He said detectives later traced and recovered the stolen vehicle on June 22 through intelligence-led operations. Although the number plates and ignition key had been removed, investigators identified the vehicle after finding its registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats.
The police commissioner added that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene was subjected to forensic examination, providing useful leads that helped investigators identify the suspects.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the main suspect, a 22-year-old labourer, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, on June 24. Two other suspects, a 27-year-old security guard and a 36-year-old bricklayer, were later apprehended during follow-up operations.

Police alleged that the principal suspect confessed to planning the attack and recruiting the two others to participate in the operation.
Investigators said the suspect claimed he targeted the deceased because he felt aggrieved over his salary and previous financial disagreements while working for her.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly subdued the security guard before gaining access to the house, where they attacked Oyesiku and later escaped with her vehicle.
Additional searches carried out at locations connected to the suspects led to the recovery of more items believed to have been used during the crime.
Ojajuni stressed that despite the confessional statements and evidence recovered, the suspects remain entitled to a fair trial, adding that the command is committed to ensuring justice is served.
