The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen who killed the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Ajiboye was attacked on Sunday, July 12, while returning home from his childhood community in Fadeyi, becoming the third senior NURTW official to be killed in Lagos in recent years.

According to reports, the assailants intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road corridor and opened fire, leaving the car riddled with bullet holes.
Although initial reports indicated that Ajiboye and other occupants survived the attack after sustaining gunshot wounds, he later died at St. Nicholas Hospital while receiving treatment.
Police authorities have since commenced investigations and intensified efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

Ajiboye’s death follows the killings of two other senior NURTW officials in Lagos. Olayemi Mathew Eniola, popularly known as Esi Oluwo or Baba Esi, was murdered in Oshodi in March 2015, while Onaopemipo Lawal, also known as Ariku, was killed in the Mile 12 area in 2022.
Reacting to the incident, Lagos State NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described the late union official as a loyal, dependable and committed ally.
“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable and committed ally,” he said.
Adekunle described Ajiboye as more than an ally, saying he remained a pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation.
He extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and members of the union, praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those mourning his death.
