Police Probe Officers Over Threat to Detain UK Returnee if He Was Igbo

The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a police officer allegedly threatening to slap and detain a traveller at a checkpoint in the state.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command viewed the viral footage with serious concern.

He stressed that the command does not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by its personnel and had already commenced a thorough investigation into the matter.

“The Command does not condone any form of unprofessional conduct by its personnel in the discharge of their duties and has therefore commenced a thorough investigation into the incident,” Jimoh said.

He also appealed to the individual involved in the incident to contact the command and provide additional information that would assist the investigation and ensure appropriate redress.

The police assured the public that the findings of the investigation would determine the appropriate action in line with established disciplinary procedures.
