Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged parents and guardians to place greater emphasis on moral upbringing, discipline, and spiritual development of their children, warning that failures in parenting contribute significantly to the growing insecurity confronting the nation, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking during the Eid al Adha celebration held at Lagos House, Ikeja, and organised by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Sanwo-Olu said children who are not properly guided and nurtured may eventually become threats to peace and stability in society.

She stressed that parents have a critical responsibility to shape the character and values of their children, noting that strong family foundations remain essential to building a safer and more peaceful society.
The First Lady also expressed concern over the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, offering prayers for their safe rescue and return.
“At this point, we remember our children who were abducted in Oyo State, these innocent children. May God help us to find them very fast,” she said.
According to her, Eid al Adha serves as a reminder of the virtues of faith, sacrifice, obedience, and total submission to the will of God, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
In his remarks, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, called on parents to embrace responsible parenting by drawing lessons from the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim.

He noted that the prophet’s unwavering obedience to God, patience, devotion, and commitment to family values remain timeless virtues necessary for raising responsible and morally upright children.
Hamzat further condemned domestic violence, stressing that the abuse of women and children is contrary to the teachings of both Islam and Christianity.
Delivering a lecture at the event, the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Dr. Ridwan Jamiu, encouraged parents to lead by example and serve as positive role models for their children.
He also advised parents against imposing their personal opinions on their children, particularly as they mature into adulthood and begin making independent decisions.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Adewunmi Ogunsanya, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to promoting religious harmony, peaceful coexistence, and unity among residents of Lagos State.
The event brought together government officials, religious leaders, and residents, who reflected on the significance of Eid al Adha and the collective responsibility of families and communities in building a morally sound and secure society.
