President Tinubu described youths as the heart of Nigeria’s development agenda and central to the nation’s economic transformation. He noted that reforms in education financing, digital infrastructure, and skills development are intended to enable young Nigerians to compete on the global stage.
The President highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, stressing that no student admitted to tertiary institutions should drop out due to financial constraints. He also cited nationwide infrastructure upgrades, including the laying of fibre optic cables, which aim to expand access to technology, deepen inclusion, and accelerate youth participation in the digital economy.
Tinubu emphasised that government reforms across various sectors aim to strengthen institutional synergy and ensure long-term growth. He added that improving security remains a top priority and praised humanitarian organisations supporting victims of terrorism and internal displacement.

Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, noted that Nigeria’s youthful population, with a median age of 17, continues to shape reforms focused on skills development and job creation.
Prince Edward commended the Tinubu administration for its reforms, which have attracted positive global attention. He said the Lagos award ceremony would celebrate 320 young Nigerians who have shown resilience, passion, and commitment to personal development.
The Duke also praised Minister Edun for his contributions to planning the event and for championing the role of young people in national reforms.
Prince Edward was accompanied by the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Sir Richard Montgomery, his Private Secretary Alex Potts, Secretary-General of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation Martin Houghton-Brown, and International Trustee for Africa Mr Muhoho Kenyatta.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global non-formal education framework that equips young people with skills, resilience, and a sense of service through schools, youth organisations, and community groups worldwide.
