  • A protest has rocked Lagos over the alleged killing of a commercial bus driver by taskforce.

EKOHOTBLOG reports activities were paralysed at Igando and Ikotun areas of Lagos as commercial bus drivers, on Tuesday, took to the streets to protest the alleged killing of a driver by officials of the State Environmental and Enforcement and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce).

It was gathered that the commercial bus driver was allegedly killed by the officials of the Lagos taskforce who were said to be in the area on an endorsement duty.

The state taskforce has since denied killing the driver, stressing that the man who was feared killed did not die, but was injured by a commercial bus driver who was fleeing the area to avoid arrest.

However, scores of commercial bus drivers blocked the LASU-Igando road to protest the alleged killing of one of their members.

The aggrieved commercial bus drivers blocked the ever-busy road for several hours, leading to heavy traffic along the Idimu-LASU road.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that commercial and human movement was also grounded as traders hastily locked their shops for fear of possible attack.

Meanwhile, the Head Public Affairs Unit of the taskforce, Femi Moliki, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that what led to the protest by commercial drivers in LASU/Iyana Iba was an attempt to escape arrest by a danfo driver who on sighting the operative of the agency in Iyana – Ipaja on Monday sped off and hit a broken-down bus.

Moliki further noted that the broken down vehicle on impact injured a technician who was repairing it, adding that the technician was taken to the hospital immediately where the injury was treated and discharged the same day.

He, therefore, debunked reports circulating that the Lagos State Taskforce killed a driver and its conductor, noting that such an incident never happened anywhere in the state.
