According to her, education plays a critical role in shaping knowledge, values, creativity and sound judgment, particularly at a time when innovation, artificial intelligence and automation are redefining how societies function.

The First Lady stressed that Nigeria must embrace skills-based and values-driven education to ensure citizens can thrive in a technology-led world without losing human agency.
Reflecting on the 2026 theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” Mrs Tinubu noted that while artificial intelligence offers immense opportunities, it must be guided by human values.

She cautioned that technology should serve humanity and not replace it, adding that humans must remain firmly in control of innovation to sustain development and ethical progress.
“In Nigeria, our focus must be on investing in inclusive, high-quality education that empowers our children and youths to think critically, act responsibly and face the future with confidence and compassion,” she said.
The International Day of Education is observed annually on January 24 following its proclamation by the United Nations to highlight the role of education in advancing peace, development, human rights and the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty eradication and gender equality.
