The memorandum presents a clear vision for a distinct Remo State, departing from previous proposals that included Ijebu State.
In a departure from previous proposals for a Remo-Ijebu State, the Remo community focuses solely on the creation of Remo State.
This new approach addresses concerns from Remo indigenes about preserving their distinct cultural heritage while emphasizing the region’s economic contributions, industrial potential, and historical connections to Ile-Ife, which strengthens its case for statehood.
As part of the submission, Sagamu has been proposed as the capital of Remo State, drawing attention to its strategic location, rapid economic growth, and industrialization.
This choice is supported by the belief that Sagamu is well-positioned to become the administrative and economic center of the envisioned state.
The demand for Remo State reflects a broader aspiration for administrative autonomy and enhanced development opportunities.
With the memorandum now before the National Assembly, stakeholders across Remo Land eagerly anticipate a fair and unbiased evaluation of their request, hoping this will be the long-awaited moment when their dream of statehood becomes a reality.
