EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Yusuf made the call on Wednesday, October 1, during the 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations held at Kofar Mata Stadium in Kano. His remarks came after security officers under CP Bakori’s command reportedly withdrew from providing security at the event, despite directives he said were personally issued to the commissioner.
“The Commissioner of Police has embarrassed us by his conduct. His action is unprofessional, unethical, and contrary to what is expected of a security chief on such a historic day for the people of Kano and indeed for Nigeria as a whole,” the governor said.
Governor Yusuf further stated that the commissioner’s actions posed a direct challenge to effective security coordination in the state. He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately relieve Bakori of his duties, insisting that the people of Kano deserve better.
“On behalf of myself as Chief Security Officer, and on behalf of the good people of Kano State, I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori today,” he declared.
The governor’s remarks cast a shadow over the Independence Day celebrations, which had drawn a large crowd of residents to the stadium.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kano State Police Command nor federal authorities had issued an official response to the governor’s demand.
