EKO HOT BLOG reports that Shittu issued the warning during an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria, where he addressed growing speculation that Tinubu might consider a different running mate for his second-term bid. According to Shittu, such a move would create unnecessary disruption and could jeopardise Tinubu’s re-election prospects.
In his remarks, the former minister strongly defended Shettima’s performance, describing him as a competent and intelligent deputy who earned his position on merit—not through political affiliations or historical ties to parties like the ANPP.
“Shettima was not nominated as vice president because of any old party arrangement,” Shittu said. “He got it on merit. He is a very intelligent vice president, and I would vote for him any day. I don’t know what he has done to make people think otherwise.”
Shittu further stressed that suggestions to drop Shettima from the 2027 ticket are unfounded and should be treated with caution. “If there are any such suggestions from any quarters, I think we must be very careful about it,” he said.
He warned that attempting to replace the vice president could destabilise the administration and harm its chances in the next election.

“It would bring a lot of disruptions if that move is made and could endanger the possibility of Tinubu’s second presidency. They must continue. You don’t punish anybody who hasn’t done anything wrong,” he added.
