EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking after the match, the 40-year-old joked about being teased by his Spanish-born children, who often support Spain to provoke him. “My children are Spanish, and they joke with me at home and say, ‘The trophy is for Spain,’” Ronaldo said, smiling. “Now they saw their dad win against Spain, so they will show more respect.”
Beyond the humour, Ronaldo was visibly moved at the final whistle, shedding tears as Portugal celebrated their win via a dramatic penalty shoot-out. “What a joy,” he told Sport TV. “First of all, for this generation, which deserved a title of this magnitude, and for our families. My children came here, my wife, my brother, my friends. Winning for Portugal is always special.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has claimed multiple titles with top clubs across Europe, emphasized that representing Portugal and lifting a trophy for his country is unmatched. “I have many titles with clubs, but nothing is better than winning for Portugal. It’s tears. It’s duty done and a lot of joy,” he said. “When you talk about Portugal it is always a special feeling. Being captain of this generation is a source of pride.”
In a surprising revelation, Ronaldo disclosed that he played the final while nursing an injury he had felt even before kickoff. “I had already felt it in the warm-up; it had been coming for some time,” he said.
Despite the discomfort, Ronaldo insisted nothing could stop him from representing his country on such a significant night. “For the national team, if I had to break a leg, I’d leave. It is a title I had to play, and I gave my best; I went as far as I could. I helped with a goal.”
The Nations League win marks yet another milestone in Ronaldo’s storied international career and a moment he says he will never forget.
