Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving religious harmony, assuring all faith communities of the freedom to worship and coexist peacefully.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor said peaceful coexistence among different religious groups remains one of Lagos State’s greatest strengths.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, spoke on Wednesday at the Golden Jubilee International Annual Convention of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Lagos and Western, Mid-Western/Northern Areas (LAWNA) Territory in Lagos.
The week-long convention, themed “The Militant Church on the Earth,” marks 50 years since the church’s first annual convention in 1977.
The governor assured worshippers that every religious group in Lagos would continue to enjoy the freedom to practise its faith while contributing to the state’s development.
He commended The Apostolic Church Nigeria for its contributions to spiritual growth, youth development, community service and nation-building.
According to him, the church’s values of faith, peace, unity and service align with his administration’s vision of building a prosperous, inclusive and secure Lagos.
“As a government, we recognise that faith-based organisations remain indispensable partners in development. While government provides infrastructure and public services, institutions such as The Apostolic Church help build character, strengthen families and promote peace,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu added that his administration would continue to strengthen partnerships with religious organisations because of their role in promoting social cohesion and moral values.
He also reaffirmed plans to construct a pedestrian bridge at the LAWNA Territory Convention Ground in Olorunda-Ketu to improve the safety of worshippers and residents.
According to him, the project reflects the government’s commitment to people-centred development.
The governor urged members of the church to remain committed to evangelism, righteous living, youth mentorship and humanitarian service, noting that Nigeria’s current challenges require institutions that promote hope, unity and integrity.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, commended the Lagos State Government for maintaining cordial relations with faith-based organisations.
He also praised the planned construction of the pedestrian bridge, describing it as a project that would improve safety and accessibility for worshippers and residents.
Earlier, the LAWNA Territorial Chairman, Pastor Moses Ogunibe, said the church had continued to complement government efforts through youth empowerment, skills acquisition, education and humanitarian programmes.
He reaffirmed the church’s commitment to partnering with the Lagos State Government to promote peace, moral values, quality education, community development and good governance.
