Denis Law, the legendary Scottish striker and the only player from Scotland to win the Ballon d’Or, has passed away at the age of 84.
Nicknamed ‘The King’ and ‘The Lawman,’ Law enjoyed a stellar 11-year career at Manchester United, where he scored 237 goals in 404 appearances, making him the third-highest scorer in the club’s history, behind Wayne Rooney and Sir Bobby Charlton.

Born in Aberdeen, Law began his football journey with Huddersfield Town, had a brief spell with Torino in Italy, and represented Scotland 55 times, scoring 30 goals to become the nation’s joint-top scorer. During his career, he broke the British transfer record three times.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia in 2021, Law’s family shared their sorrow in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.”
“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently.
“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you.”
Manchester United said everyone at the club is mourning the loss of “the King of the Stretford End”.
