EKO HOT BLOG reports that the clarification follows claims made by businessman Nonso Okafor, who alleged that he was persuaded in October 2024 to provide $100,000 through a senior legislative aide to the senator, identified as Osereme Christen Omofoma.
Okafor claimed he was told the money would either be refunded or offset through the award of federal government contracts. He later filed a petition through his lawyer, Elochukwu Obi, to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), requesting an investigation into the matter.
The senator has previously denied the allegations, describing them as false and aimed at damaging her reputation. However, the businessman has maintained his position, insisting that his claims are accurate.
Reacting to the controversy, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, said the Senate is not aware of any such case before it.
He explained that the legislative chamber does not investigate personal dealings of lawmakers outside their official responsibilities.
Adaramodu added that the Senate only handles matters formally presented before it, stressing that its focus remains lawmaking, oversight, and representation.
He said, “We don’t have such a case before us. We are not aware of that. We don’t probe into the personal engagement of senators outside the chambers and the National Assembly.

“That’s just an allegation. We don’t have a case like this before us. We can only talk of what is before us. We are concerned about any matter that involves lawmaking, oversight and representation.”
