Senate President,Speaker CJN, Not Under Investigation- NFIU

– NFIU said that the leaked letter indicating that it is investigating top public office holders was false and misleading

– It is also pertinent to note that the NFIU has the major responsibility to maintain and regularly update about PEPs

– NFIU,not investigating any of the top public office holders

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit(NFIU) has said that a leaked letter suggesting that it is investigating the Senate president, the speaker of the House of Representative, the Chief Justice of the Federation is false and misleading.

In a statement,NFIU Chief Media Analyst, Ahmed Dikko said: “It is also pertinent to note that the NFIU has the major responsibility, in accordance with global standards, to maintain and regularly update the list of Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs). It will be recalled that a new government was inaugurated in May 2019.

The officer who initiated the unauthorized letter was also taking the initiative to update the PEPs list.

Few days ago,News frittered that the Federal Government has commenced an investigation into bank accounts belonging to Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Speaker of the House of Reps Femi Gbajabiamila and other principal officers of the National Assembly.

The letter dated Sept. 10, 2019, and signed by NFIU Associate Director, Analysis and Compliance, Fehintola Salisu, stated that the Chief Compliance Officers of banks were directed to release the account details of all legislators and judiciary officials in the country.

NFIU,therefore clearly stated that the letter indicating investigation of top public office holders was false and not to be believed by anyone.
