Fresh details have emerged on the proposed 2027 political alliance between the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with confirmation that both camps have constituted a joint committee to mobilise support on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a source close to Obi disclosed that the committee was inaugurated about a month ago and has been tasked with working out strategies to secure a joint presidential ticket under the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We’re no longer at the talking stage; we have moved ahead. A committee has been set up for the alliance and things are taking shape,” the source said.
The development was confirmed by the National Legal Adviser of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and a prominent leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Magaji Ibrahim, SAN, who stated that Kwankwaso is willing to work with Obi either as presidential or vice presidential candidate.
Ibrahim revealed that he is a member of the committee and described the discussions as having reached an advanced stage.
“There is ongoing discussion between Kwankwaso and Obi, and a committee is actually in place for the actualisation of the alliance. The committee is from both sides, and I am a member,” he said.
“We are ready to work together either for the first or second position. The central point is to salvage the nation.”
On Kwankwaso’s possible defection to the ADC, Ibrahim disclosed that talks were ongoing between the party leadership and leaders of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
“We are discussing with them at the moment. There is a move to meet us, but we’re yet to meet,” he stated.
However, he made it clear that Kwankwaso’s participation in the ADC would depend on the party’s presidential calculations.
“I don’t think we can consider anything short of the second position,” Ibrahim said when asked whether Kwankwaso would join the ADC without securing either the presidential or vice presidential slot.
The proposed alliance is seen as part of broader efforts by opposition figures to form a united front capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.
